our 30th anniversary season

During the 2023-2024 concert season, ECMC will celebrate 30 years of forward-thinking musical excellence in Tenor/Bass choral music with two stunning concert offerings.

First, during the December holidays, the chorus will present INCARNATIONS, a gender-defying program of seasonal music re-imagined for Tenor/Bass voices, including Vince Peterson's re-voicing of Navidad Nuestra by the legendary Argentinian composer, Ariel Ramirez, performed with a guitar-driven South American consort. Also included will be several holiday works by queer-identifying composers and a special holiday piece commissioned by ECMC in honor of the Anniversary year.

Then, in the Spring of 2024, ECMC will be joined by the Queer Urban Orchestra and its conductor, David Bloom, to present an epic Anniversary program called GIVE EVERYTHING examining humanity's need for generosity without expectation. A concert study of what it means to give everything - even your very life in the service of others, the program will include Conrad Susa's rarely heard orchestration and choral voicing of Brahms' four last songs or Ernste Gesänge, Joel Thompson's heart-wrenching Seven Last Words of the Unarmed, and an uplifting anniversary-commissioned work for chorus and orchestra by the composer Jeffrey Parola.

EMBRACE EMPOWER ELEVATE

A chorus of compassion and courage, we embrace the marginalized, empower the disconnected, and elevate the human spirit through soul-stirring/evocative/powerful music. As vanguards of men's choral music, we break barriers, challenge norms, and inspire the celebration of every individual, regardless of gender, identity, or orientation.

ALL IS MERE BREATH: Interview with composer

ALL IS MERE BREATH: MEMBER INTERVIEWS

WHAT DOES THIS PIECE MEAN TO YOU?

In March 2023, ECMC premiered composer Nicholas Weininger's first major work All is Mere Breath (Hakol Hevel). Inspired by the harrowing experience of the Covid-19 pandemic, this work examines the relationship between forced isolation and how we as human beings bring about either our collective freedom or captivity.

Hear our members share their stories about what this piece means to them having survived the Covid-19 pandemic and then singing about that experience in this compelling work.
